Presentation for Meeting of April, 2010
The presentation will be Paddling the Washington Coast: Neah Bay to Kalaloch, by Tom Banks and Mac Carter. Tom
and Mac will tell the tale of last summer’s trip along the Washington Coast, paddling in everything from nausea-
inducing heavy swell in pea-soup fog to spectacularly warm and sunny days, with at least one night spent sleepless
and listening to the raucous chuckles and chatter from a resident puffin colony.
Presentation for the Meeting of May, 2010
The presentation  will be Sea Kayaking from Mountains to Ocean:  Reflections on Watershed Ecology in the
Washington Pacific Northwest, by Dan Baharav.  This presentation promises an intriguing look at the diverse and
wild ecology as well as the urban area of the region between the Cascades and the ocean shore. Dan is an avid
outdoorsman who travels the Pacific Ocean waterways by sea kayak. He holds a Ph.D. in Zoology and Ecology and for
the last forty years has held both academic and consulting posts. This presentation—and his latest book--  explore
how watershed and urban ecologies interface along the lakes, rivers, estuaries, deltas, bays and inlets as they
course into the Puget Sound and into the Pacific Ocean, as seen from the eyes of a paddling scientist and
professional ecologist.
